Can I change the default workspace for KNIME?

You can switch to a different workspace while you are running KNIME by choosing File → Switch Workspace. This is the normal mechanism in KNIME for switching workspaces. (This did not work on 64-bit Windows machines with previous versions of KNIME, in 2013 or earlier.)

If you want to start KNIME with a different workspace, you can do so as follows:

Linux or Mac: Use the following command to start KNIME:

knime -data workspace-directory

To make this the default, you could define an alias, for example.

Windows: Change the startup command for KNIME as follows:

  1. Right-click the KNIME icon on the desktop and choose Properties.
  2. In the Shortcut tab, put the cursor at the end of the text in the Target
    field.
  3. Add a space then type -data followed by a space and the path to
    the desired workspace. For example:
     -data C:\Users\myusername\Project\knime_workspace
  4. Click OK.

You can now start KNIME with the new workspace by double-clicking the KNIME icon. The new workspace is now the default: it is used every time you start KNIME via this icon.
