I see that my job "fizzled". What does that mean?

When a job "fizzles", it means the backend could not be started. There are several common causes for this:

  • The scratch directory declared by the tmpdir: setting in the hosts file, schrodinger.hosts, does not have read and write permissions for the user.
  • For a remote job, passwordless ssh failed, and the remote job could not be started.
  • A firewall on the remote host is blocking file transfers. In general, Schrödinger Job Control needs access to ports above 1024 on the remote host.

See the Installation Guide for information on the hosts file, setting up passwordless ssh, and firewall issues.
