Maestro crashes or freezes my MacBook Pro. What can I do?

This problem can be caused by the drawing of bond outlines. To work around the problem:

  1. Start Maestro, but do not display any structures.
  2. Open the Preferences panel (Maestro → Preferences).
  3. Go to the Molecular representation – Atoms and bonds section.
  4. Change the Display bond outlines option to Never.

If this does not fix the problem, open the Console application (Applications → Utilities) and filter the list for messages containing Maestro. If you see messages like the following:

1/08/2012 17:28:08.000 kernel[0] NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception!
exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error
31/08/2012 17:28:08.000 kernel[0] IOVendorGLContext::ReportGPURestart

then the problem may be triggered by a OS or driver issue related to automatically switching between the NVIDIA and Intel graphics hardware. If this is the case, send the information to Technical Support (help@schrodinger.com) with a description of the problem.

You might also be experiencing a known hardware problem with 15-inch MacBook Pro computers manufactured between April 2010 and February 2011. See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088 for details.
