Why does Maestro crash when I run it on a VM?

Virtual machines apparently do not have full access to the libraries needed for graphics rendering. You should be able to run Maestro successfully on a VM with the -SGL option, to use the supplied (software) graphics libraries. An exception is Parallels on the Mac, which does use the hardware graphics.
