How well does ConfGen perform on steroid-like molecules? Should I use MacroModel instead?

ConfGen was not parametrized for particular molecules, so it should do as well on steroid-like molecules as any other. If you want to use MacroModel, the mixed MCMM/LMOD method is probably the best one to use. The fused ring system will not undergo any conformational change in either case.
