Where should I install Schrödinger software?
It depends on the circumstances of the installation.
- If you are installing for the first time, you should install the software in a directory on a file system that is large enough for the installation, and available to any potential user.
- If you are installing an update to an already-existing production release with the same major version number, install into the same location as the original release.
- If you have an existing release, but are installing a new, subsequent release with a different version number, install it into a directory separate from any existing previous release. (This is required from Suite 2011 on.)
- If you are installing beta software, install it in a new, unoccupied directory.
