Richard A. Friesner Inducted into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences

NEW YORK, NY (October 13, 2008) - Schrödinger announced today that Professor Richard A. Friesner , Schrödinger's Scientific Advisory Board Chairman and Co-Founder, was inducted into the 2008 Class of Fellows of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. The American Academy is one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious honorary societies and independent policy research centers. "The Academy honors excellence by electing to membership remarkable men and women who have made preeminent contributions to their fields, and to the world," said Academy President Emilio Bizzi. "We are pleased to welcome into the Academy these new members to help advance our founders' goal of ‘cherishing knowledge and shaping the future.'" Professor Friesner, along with other new members, was inducted during a ceremony on Saturday, October 11, at the Academy's headquarters in Cambridge, Mass.

"It's a great honor and I'm thrilled," said Professor Friesner, "it's an objective validation of one's lifework; it's satisfying and at the same time energizing - it fills me with renewed vigor to keep going and to tackle the next challenge."

Professor Friesner's research has spanned a wide range of applications, from high-performance electronic structure theory to practical simulations aimed at accelerating drug discovery. He has served as Chairman of the Company's Scientific Advisory Board since its inception. "Rich has guided our scientific development and demanded the highest level of accuracy and reliability in our products," said Dr. Ramy Farid , Schrödinger's President, "Rich's contribution to the company is immeasurable, and we are so happy for him to receive this well-deserved honor."

Professor Friesner is Professor of Chemistry at Columbia University and Director of the Columbia Center for Biomolecular Simulation. He has been awarded a Sloan Foundation Fellowship, Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, and an NIH Research Career Development Award. In 1990, he co-founded Schrödinger and is a member of the Company's Board of Directors.
