NEW YORK, NY (January 31, 2008) - Schrödinger, Inc. announced today that it has promoted Dr. Ramy S. Farid to the position of President. "Over his past five years with the firm, Ramy has done a tremendous job in roles of increasing responsibility, and we are very pleased to see him take on global responsibility for firmwide management," says Charles Ardai , Chairman of Schrödinger's Board of Directors. "His scientific expertise, dedication, and commitment to meeting the needs of the company's customers and partners have had a huge impact on Schrödinger's emergence as one of the leaders in its field."
Dr. Farid first joined Schrödinger in 2002 with responsibility for developing Prime , a novel technology for protein structure prediction and refinement. He subsequently gained responsibility for all of Schrödinger's product development, as well as for executive management of the firm's team of application scientists. Starting in 2007, Dr. Farid has also been responsible for establishing and overseeing strategic drug discovery collaborations between Schrödinger and both academic and commercial research labs.
Before joining Schrödinger, Dr. Farid served as a Professor at Rutgers University, where he focused on computational protein design. Dr. Farid received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Caltech in 1991, and was an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania.
"Ramy not only is a top-caliber scientist himself but also has a deep understanding of what other scientists working in drug design research need," said Dr. Richard A. Friesner , co-founder of Schrödinger and Chairman of Schrödinger's Scientific Advisory Board. "He has helped Schrödinger earn its reputation for delivering exceptional solutions that are based on a foundation of exceptional science."
"It has been very rewarding to have seen my role grow as the company has grown," said Dr. Farid, "and I am looking forward to helping Schrödinger and Schrödinger's customers achieve the ambitious goals that we and they have set. I am excited to have the opportunity to lead this outstanding team."
